You've Got "IT" - Part 1 (Define "IT")

Welcome back to the “IT” series! So, what is “IT?”

First, “IT” is NOT: “good looks,” “good genes,” good luck, or a charming personality. “IT” is NOT about money, houses, cars, designer clothes or the latest cell phone. You can’t touch “IT.”

 “IT” is Inside of Us:

Drive, Determination, Dedication, Discipline, Motivation, Ambition, Persistence, Resilience, Faith, Focus, Passion, Confidence, Courage…

We see the end results of successful people inner “IT” and sometimes envy them. But –

* Ask that student if becoming Valedictorian & a football star was easy.

* Ask Michael Jordan if it was easy becoming the greatest NBA player (my opinion) after failing to make his high school basketball team.

* Ask Oprah Winfrey if it was easy overcoming poverty and child abuse to becoming a billionaire and a blessing to countless people.

* Ask me if it was easy writing and publishing Imani in Young Love & Deception after 10 literary agents rejected it. Yet, it made EBONY magazine and The Black Caucus National Council of Teachers of English recommended reading lists. It is 10th grade required reading in the Paterson, NJ School District.

NO, it wasn’t easy. But, we’ve got the inner “IT” so we can do it! Yet, “IT” needs a TARGET. More on this in Part 2 – Discover “IT” (Aug. 9th). I’ll leave you with these words:

“A man can be as great as he wants to be. If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are willing to sacrifice…it can be done.” - Vince Lombardi
